*  SIXTY AND BETTER supported by the Queensland Government promotes active, healthy ageing, friendship and other cultural activities as a pathway to a heathier and a more enjoyable lifestyle. Activities include Walking Groups, Tai Chi,  Exercises to Music,  Table Tennis,  Line Dancing,   Mens Fitness groups,  Womens Toning Groups,  Swimming - Pool Exercises Aqua - Aerobics,  Cards,  Marjong,  Sign Language Classes,  Writing Groups,  Dinner Groups,  M,S.Support Meetings,  60 and Better Programme Meetings, Coffee and Chat Mornings,  Health Information, Trips and Outings,   Referrals to other activities, - and more.  Corner Guineas Creek Rd and Coolgardie Street,  Elanora Pines Block   Phone 5525 6466. .                                                          

* RETIREES AUSTRALIA is a "not for profit" and self supporting research and information service mainly serving the aged loosely linked to over 50 Government and voluntary organisations serving seniors on the Gold Coast.  Helps with dissemination of news and information via its website www.retireesau.org .and articles in the media.  Equally supports all Governments and all "not for profit" organisations. Current projects. Age care, Health; Hospitals, & Nursing Homes ; Beachside Building heights; Noise;  Keeping your nest egg together.            VOLUNTARY SERVICE AWARDS  include  Centenary Medal from Her Majesty for voluntary services to the community;  Award  International Year of volunteers 2001 (Prime Minister);  Commonwealth Recognition Award for Senior Australians 2001  (Prime Minister);  Commonwealth Government Dept of Families award recognising outstanding contribution to the community;  Premier's Award for outstanding voluntary service to the community and to Queensland;.  Bulletin Honours Award for voluntary services to the Gold Coast Community : Queensland Dept. of Health for support associated with the establishment of Interim Care and Transitional Age Care systems   LINKED ASSOCIATIONS AND POSITIONS;   Director of Association of Independent Retirees GC;  Director GC Committee on the Ageing;  Director Gold Coast Council Seniors Affairs Advisory Board;  Community representative Queensland Government Gold Coast Home and Community Care Advisory Group; and Gold Coast Department of Health ;  Member Queensland Government Gold Coast Reference Group on Ageing Issues (link to information from over 40 Government and voluntary bodies) also linked  internationally for exchange of age care information.     

OTHER MATTERS There seems to be so many needs and so many avenues open to serve seniors - if we continue to work together.

Retirees Australia for it’s part has completed it’s policy planning for the coming year. It will continue as a totally independent, free and self supporting research group working closely with all organisations having similar aims. and all levels of elected government.  It is already loosely linked to some 50 associations and Government bodies for the purpose of discussing senior concerns and possible action. Arising partly from it’s 2002 survey into Gold Coast Community needs, it has, in association with other organisations, contributed substantially to :-

• The holding of some beachfront building heights to existing limits
• The installation of school traffic lights
• Reduction in unnecessary noise damaging to hearing and distressing to the community
• Initiated improvements in Gold Coast hospital and health services.
• Through it's website has supported the international call for more Gold Coast Doctors and Nurses
• Has continued to support Carelink as a one stop information service for the aged.
• Has continued to support Centrelink in publicising services to seniors.
• Has been pressing the case for more beachside toilets and this will continue.
• Is seeking retirees with special skills who are prepared to serve as volunteer consultants
